The sequence of human immunodeficiency virus type 2 circle junction suggests that integration protein cleaves the ends of linear DNA asymmetrically

Type: article
Abstract: The sequence of the human immunodeficiency virus type 2 circle junction was determined. The most common sequence found between the conserved CA and TG dinucleotides at the ends of the integrated provirus was five bases long (GGTAC). This suggests that the integration of human immunodeficiency virus type 2 DNA is accompanied by the asymmetric loss of two and three bases, respectively, from the U3 and U5 ends of the linear double-stranded DNA prior to integration.
