Approaches to Positive Management: Some Implications for Training Education Managers

Year: 1992
Type: article
Abstract: This article focuses on the role of positive management in education and presents a model for the training of education managers in the art and science of leading others ‘positively’. It highlights five factors (demoralisation, pessimism, insecurity, tiredness and lack of knowledge) which can result from the current climate of change and proposes that positive management as a strategy is an essential feature in successful education management. Since organisational life revolves around people interacting and collaborating, training of education managers in assessing and developing positive skills should help to build confidence and enable managers to learn from their experiences, rather than be ground down by negative forces which may be perceived as a consequence of change.
