108 Poster Developing New Nursing Methods in Helping to Create Meaningful Lifestyle Changes for Heart Patients

Year: 2010
Type: article
Abstract: Background: In this project several perspectives were addressed in order to determine a better way of supporting lifestyle changes for patients treated for ischaemic heart disease. The previous effort did not seem to have the desired effect. In particular information about risk hazards did not seem to help people in changing their lifestyle in the long term. Purpose: The aim of the project was to develop methods to ensure that the lifestyle conversation was experienced as valuable in terms of having gained inspiration into making good lifestyle choices. A nursing research project designed as a research in action project was established. Method: Firstly a hermeneutic-phenomenological study was designed intended to gain insight in patient outcome from lifestyle conversation. Qualitative analyses of interviews was used. Secondly a programme was planned to create awareness of nursing conduct in these situations and thirdly another study investigated the impact of the new nursing methods. Six patients were interviewed five to six months after discharge. Seven were interviewed after the changes in communication.
