Active cytomegalovirus infection in patients with acute venous thrombosis: A case‐control study
Year: 2011
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Infectious diseases have been associated with venous thrombosis (VT) [1]. Several case-studies described active cytomegalovirus infection in patients with VT [2-6]. In this case-control study, we detected five cases with active cytomegalovirus infection and VT, and none in the control group. All were female, below 37 years of age, and had another acquired risk factor for VT. This may imply that active cytomegalovirus infection contributes to a procoagulant state in young subjects with other mild risk factors for VT.
