Abstract: Current understanding of the regional nature of global changes in the climato‐logical regime of the earth is limited. General circulation climate models (GCMs) cannot provide consistent and detailed information on the regional patterns of precipitation, soil moisture and runoff that are required by water resource planners. A case study is presented that couples a limited area model, with high spatial resolution and realistic land‐surface parametrization, to a global climate model. Results for July are presented for the continent of Australia.
