Study on Leakage Induced Settlement of the Adjacent Structures

Abstract: Field monitoring datum of a foundation pit are reviewed and analyzed to explain the settlement of adjacent structures. Settlements of adjacent structures induced by the water level fall are calculated through the principle of effective stress in saturated soil and the stratified summation method. The calculated settlement 31.93mm is close to the observed value 28.8mm. This confirms the effective stress increased by the leakage is the main cause of the settlement of adjacent structure.
