Abstract: Fluorescent silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs; shiny spheres in the picture) modified with biological molecules are produced under microwave irradiation (ripples), as is described by Y. He, S. T. Lee, and co-workers in their Communication on page 8485 ff. This synthesis strategy offers exciting avenues for designing multifunctional silicon nanostructures.
