Langerhans Cell Chimerism After Myeloablative Versus Nonmyeloablative Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

Year: 2009
Type: article
Abstract: Host antigen presenting cells have been shown to play an important role in triggering graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in animal models of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). To determine whether kinetics of skin LC-chimerism, as assesses by combined XY-FISH and Langerin-immunohistochemistry among recipients of sex-mismatched grafts, are influenced by conditioning-intensity in human patients, we prospectively obtained skin biopsies before and after myeloablative (MA) and nonmyeloablative (NMA) HCT.
