Metodología analítica por cromatografía gaseosa para la determinación de los alcoholes alifáticos superiores que componen el policosanol

Abstract: A gas chromatographic analytical method, using packed column and 1-eicosanol as internal standard, was developed in order to determine the eight higher primary aliphatic alcohols which compose the policosanol. It was demostrated that the analysis of these alcohols as free compounds has a nega-tive effect over the precision of the method (10 %) under these experimental conditions. Good linearity was proven within the mass ratio range from 0.8 to 20.0 (total of alcohols/internal standard), according to the values of the correla-tion coefficient (> 0,99), the relative standard deviation of response factors (< 5 %), and the relative standard deviation of the slope (< 2 %); the procedure has no bias since the zero value is included in the confidence interval of the inter-cept (p = 0.05). The precision (1.12 %) and the accuracy (100.19 %) found, show that this method can be used for the quality control of policosanol
