The Ranking of Real Estate Journals: A Citation Analysis Approach
Year: 1996
Type: preprint
Abstract: This study provides an objective ranking of real estate journals by applying citation analysis. The number of times articles in a set of base journals were cited was tallied for the years 1990 through 1995. The base set included the Appraisal Journal, the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, the Journal of Real Estate Research and Real Estate Economics. Consistently over the time period and the base journals, it was found that Real Estate Economics was the highest ranked journal. The highest ranked journals included not only real estate journals, but also journals in finance and economics. Over 1990-1995 academic journals in real estate gradually improved in rank, while practitioner oriented real estate journals declined. The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics rose in the rankings from 31 to the top 5.
