Abstract: In this paper, the compression post-buckling behavior of the rectangular plate with simply support on four sides, although without constraining in-plane displacement of two long side ends, are discussed using the effective width theory by Karman and the deflection equation of the plate. The out-of-plane and compressional in-plane displacements, and the stress distribution of the post-buckling with respect to compressive load are derived, and compared with the results by finite element method (FEM). The results are following; the derived equations of out-of-plane and in-plane displacements are sufficiently consistent with the results by FEM. The derived stress distribution shows intermediate characteristics.
