Abstract: This master's thesis sets out to explore the relationship between feminism and everyday practice on a conceptual level, in an effort to theorize feminist living practices. The paper starts by asking how feminist thoughts come to bear meaning in relation to one's own life. In the same way, it is questioned, how feminist ideas and principles are translated into daily practice, in which way they can be incorporated into everyday life. Feminism, being associated with a broad set of potential meanings, refers, amongst other things, to multifaceted theoretical traditions, historically specific political ventures and activist strategies, and encompasses a range of subject matters. In oder to define the term feminism, selected aspects of feminist thought and feminist practice are discussed in terms of the possibilities that arise from different conceptual approaches to feminism. By contrasting diverse sociological concepts that broach the issue of everyday life, germane aspects of the potential relationship between feminism and living practices are to be discovered. These concepts, among them theories on lifestyle and the everyday life, are based on heterogeneous philosophical schools of thought; they focus on different questions and emphasize divergent dimensions of social life. In this context, specific implications that follow from a particular approach for the construction of a concept of feminist living practices will evolve as focal point of this analysis. Furthermore, the concepts will be related to specific developments in the sociology of social inequality, this link constituting a key element of the specific ways in which feminist living practices are developed in this paper. Subsequently, the decisions made throughout the research process and the development of the research questions are documented and reflected upon, relating them to the arguments presented. In order to demonstrate the specific ways in which the object of inquiry has been constituted in this thesis, characteristic features of feminist living practices are outlined. Thereby, the following issues emerge as important qualities: a focus on the social processes by which meaning is created, political properties of everyday practice as well as the question how agency is best conceptualized given that subjects are seen as constituted through the very structures transformation is aimed at.
