La cuestión territorial y la brecha digital en el caso argentino

Abstract: Argentina is characterized for being a country with a marked territorial asymmetry that has important explanatory power on the level of inequality of its population. This situation originates in the modality of organization assumed by the country towards the end of the 19th century. For the purposes of this work it is important to point out that, since the last decades of the 20th century, this configuration of the country and its regions is articulated with a series of changes -political, economic, social and technological- that augur the arrival of a new model of society, where Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) occupy a central role. Faced with this phenomenon - which has become known as the "Information Society" - we ask ourselves about its impact on the pre - existing pattern of regional development. Searching for answers we analyze data on the diffusion of these technologies in the territory in different periods. The results showed that although there was an increase in the amount of infocommunicational goods and services that the country has, from the beginning of the informational revolution until our days, there were no changes in their relative distribution, evidencing the permanence of the gaps over time. In short, ICTs replicate the asymmetric territorial development pattern characteristic of Argentina, adding to existing inequalities.
