Measuring and Enhancing the Contrast and Quality of Digital Images

Abstract: Current studies on image quality have identified contrast as an important perceptual attribute. Four practical algorithms for image contrast have been proposed in this research work. The first algorithm is for measuring contrast of a single image and is in agreement with observers’ perceived contrast. The second algorithm instead calculates the difference of contrast between one original image and one of its reproductions. The third and the fourth algorithm provide contrast enhancement augmenting the details available in the image.
