Year: 2013
Type: article
Abstract: This study shows the additional ability for tuning bandgap of CZTSSe solar cell absorber materials through substitution of Sn by Ge or Zn by Cd atoms in the crystal lattice forming new Cu2ZnGeSe4 or Cu2CdSnS4 compounds in the monograin powder form. Cu2CdSnS4 and Cu2ZnGeSe4 monograin powders were synthesized from binary compounds in molten CdI2 and KI as flux materials in sealed quartz ampoules at 610C and 710C, respectively. The phase composition of synthesized powders was determined by XRD and Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectrum of the Cu2ZnGeSe4 powder revealed dominating A1 Raman peak at 204 cm-1, other Raman peaks were detected at 92, 173, 177, 271, 283, and 292 cm-1. Raman spectra of Cu2CdSnS4 powder crystals showed the characteristic Raman frequencies at 90, 250, 283, 333 and 353 cm-1. The effective bandgap energy values determined from the EQE data of the Cu2ZnGeSe4 and Cu2CdSnS4 devices are 1.35 and 1.4 eV. Solar cells based on the Cu2ZnGeSe4 monograin powder showed the best conversion efficiency of 1.3 %. The solar cells based on the Cu2CdSnS4 monograin powder showed the best conversion efficiency of 2.7 % .
