Abstract: This report describes an approach for calculating the two-dimensional structural response of an accident occurring in a single-core subassembly and possibly propagating to the adjacent one or two rows of subassemblies.A finite -element method is used for this transient, nonlinear dynamic analysis of large-displacement, small-strain problems with material nonlinearities. The method employs a convected-coordinate technique and a direct nodal-force computational scheme, which consequently results inconsiderable efficiency. The developed set of the basic equations is programmed for solution on the IBM-360 computer.Node displacements, strains and stresses at various levels through the nodal-section thickness, volume change of a structural segment, and pressure change of a par ticular pressure line are given at any instant of time.
