Abstract: English summary Satisfaction with dental services in the adult population 622 – 6. The purpose of the study was to describe Norwegian adults’ satisfaction with dental services. The sample consisted of 2 471 persons and was representative of the Norwegian adult population. The data were collected in the spring of 2004. There were two main groups of questions. The first group included questions about accessibility, such as how long one had to sit in a waiting room and travelling distance to the dental surgery. The second group of questions was about the actual dental visit and treatment, such as the dentist’s ability to communicate, his or her professional skills, and the result of treatment. The respondents were asked to range their satisfaction on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 6 (highest). Adults scored very high on satisfaction. For most of the questions 50 % of the respondents gave the highest score. There was no difference in satisfaction graded to gender or size of the municipality. There was an insignificant tendency for younger adults to be dissatisfied with the cost of treatment. However, patients over 60 years of age were not dissatisfied with the cost of treatment. The results indicate that most people assess private dental services as well functioning.
