Year: 2016
Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: We report the prenatal diagnosis of two cases of double aortic arch and review of literature. First case, patient was referred at 23 weeks to our centre for abnormal 3 vessels view. Heart examination shows in 3 vessels trachea view, 4 vessels. At the trachea level, aortic arch presented one to the right and one on the left, resembling the Greek letter "lambda", esophagus and trachea were observed between both aortic arch. Behind the trachea both arches are joined in the descending aorta. Pregnancy evolution was normal. Healthy newborn was delivery at 39 weeks of pregnancy. Echocardiographic examination performed after birth corroborated prenatal finding, chromosomal study was 46, XX. Second case was referred to our centre for multiple structural defects at 22 weeks. Ultrasound examination shows choroid plexus cysts, micrognatia, absence of gastric camera, finger overlaps. Heart examinations shows, in 3 vessels view, a double aortic arch surrounding the trachea and esophagus, diagnosis was confirmed with Colour Doppler and detailed exploration of outflow tract and aortic arch. Prenatal cytogenetic study was requested and amniocentesis was done at 25 weeks resulting in 47, XX +18. Currently this is ongoing pregnancy. The prevalence of a fetal double aortic arch is unknown. A double aortic arch is formed when both fourth arches and both dorsal aortas remain present.
