The Role of Microglia in Molecular and Behavioral Alterations After Systemic Inflammation

Abstract: Evidence indicates that inflammatory signaling contributes to emotional and cognitive symptoms in neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases. Understanding the molecular and cellular nature of inflammatory signaling is critical for proposing therapeutic strategies to mitigate the symptoms and disease progression but microglia are obvious candidates for being involved. As an immune challenge we used E. coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 10 μg/kg, i.p.), and to investigate how microglia are involved we used a chemogenetic approach.
