Evaluation of bioseramic sealers on dental pulp stem cells
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Recently, two bioseramic root canal sealers were introduced under the names MTA Bioseal (ITENA Clinical, Paris, France) and AH Plus BC Sealer (Dentsply Sirona, Charlotte, NC). However, MTA Bioseal, a mineral trioxide aggregate based, salicylate resin containing root canal sealer, while AH Plus BC sealer containing tricalcium silicate, zirconium dioxide, lithium carbonate, and additional components. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxic effects of these root canal sealers using primary mesenchymal derived dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs). For the cytotoxicity assay, DPSCs were incubated in culture medium containing eluates of each sealer at 24 and 72 h. Cells cultured only with culture medium served as controls. An XTT assay was used to determine the cytotoxicity. The data on cell cytotoxicity were analyzed statistically using a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's multiple comparisons test at a significance level of P <.05. The MTA Bioseal group had less cell viability than the AH Plus BC Sealer and control groups. The cell viability of the AH Plus BC Sealer group was less than that of the control group. The order of cytotoxicity for root canal sealers was as follows: MTA Bioseal < AH Plus BC Sealer < Control Group. AH Plus BC Sealer and MTA Bioseal, bioseramic endodontic sealers, exhibited different cytotoxicity to DPSCs.
