A Research Practice Partnership to Accelerate Learning in Kent, WA, School District

Year: 2025
Type: book-chapter
Abstract: This chapter illustrates how the Regional Educational Laboratory Northeast and Islands, a federally funded research and technical assistance provider, has supported a focus on equity within research-practice partnerships (RPPs). Through technical assistance, training, coaching, and applied research projects, researchers collaborated with practitioners and policymakers to investigate various pressing issues related to educational equity. One collaboration with Boston Public Schools is profiled in this chapter to demonstrate the equity focus at various stages of work, from project inception and implementation to knowledge use and action. Through this work, Boston Public Schools sought to examine the implementation of their first-year teacher mentoring program and the district’s goals to increase teacher retention and the diversity of the workforce. By sharing reflections on their partnership, the authors illustrate how equity shapes RPP agenda-setting, collaborations, and inquiry strategies in project work.
