How Do Researchers and Teachers Co-Design Computational Thinking Education? A Synergistic Approach for Professional Learning
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This paper examines the dynamics of a researcher-teacher partnership in codesigning computational thinking (CT) learning experiences for young children. While CT integration in early childhood education has gained increasing attention, the gap between theoretical frameworks and practical implementation remains a significant challenge.Through the lens of co-design in professional learning, we analyze the synergistic effort between researchers and a teacher during a five-day summer program involving 14 children (ages 4-12) in eastern China. Our findings reveal distinct patterns of engagement among different stakeholders, highlighting the complementary nature of theoretical and practical expertise in the co-design practices. The insights contribute to our understanding of effective professional learning experiences for CT education and offer practical implications for scaling similar initiatives in diverse cultural contexts.
