Type: article
Abstract: The development of high-performance Zn-metal/air hybrid battery devices has garnered significant attention due to their potential in sustainable energy storage devices. MoS2 is a prospective material for electrochemical energy applications, due to the multiple oxidation states of Mo. This study focuses on optimizing the ratio of active material (MoS2) and carbon additives during electrode preparation to obtain an optimum electrochemical performance in a Zn-MoS2/Air hybrid battery device employing a gel polymer electrolyte. The variation of carbon additive tailors the conductivity and affects the overall battery efficiency. The results reveal that an optimum amount of active material (70%) significantly improves the discharge capacity and improves cycle life by 77 cycles (25 hours) and 205 cycles (68.3 hours) from its nearest competitors (60% and 80% of active material), respectively. This highlights the synergistic effects of the carbon additive. This optimization paves the way to develop cost-effective, high-energy-density Zn-MoS2/Air hybrid batteries with enhanced durability and positions them as promising candidates for next-generation energy storage solutions.
