Abstract: Background: Parkia biglobosa (African locust beans) is a perennial plant, utilized in West Africa for food and medicinal. The fermented seed of P. biglobosa is enriched with nutrients, which improves antioxidant activity, and reduces antinutrients. This study aims to investigate the gastroprotective effects of fermented P. biglobosa seed extract on aspirin-induced gastrointestinal damage. Materials and Method: 30 rats were divided into 6 groups (n=5). Group 1 is the control. Group 2 received 1000mg/kg of extract. Group 3 received 20mg/kg of aspirin. Group 4 received both 1000mg/kg of extract and 20mg/kg of aspirin simultaneously. Group 5 received 1200mg/kg of extract for the first week and 20mg/kg of aspirin for the second week. Group 6 received 20mg/kg of aspirin for the first week and 1500mg/kg of extract for the second week. The study assessed stomach weight, body weight, and histological changes. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 20. Result: No significant difference in stomach and body weight increase (p < 0.05). Group four exhibited normal stomach cell morphology, attributed to phytochemicals like saponins and flavonoids in the extract. Conclusion: Parkia biglobosa counters aspirin-induced gastric damage in rats in the present study.
