Histórias relacionando culturas: exemplos de pesquisas em arte-educação no Canadá
Year: 1999
Type: article
Abstract: Looking back at our own education we can se lines that we were trained to recognise. These are lines we did no intend to draw; but we inherited them. In recent years, we have been discovering the ways in which our practices exclude people we intend to include as full participants in art. We are recognising the exclusion of women, aboriginal people, diverse cultural groups, visible minorities - gay, lesbian and bisexual people -, and people with disabilities. Recognising how we are drawing such boundary lines in art education prompts us to look critically at exclusion and to explore new ways of teaching. Most obviously, we need to appoint to teaching and research posts women and members of visible minorities, cultural minorities and other designated groups. The direct contribution of these people to art, teaching and research is vital.
