Abstract: This pattern guides the design of software components that exchange large amounts of data in order to deliver a certain decision service. The general objective is to minimize the total (i.e. development, maintenance and runtime) cost of the system to be built. After the introduction of a set of basic design scenarios to gather data, the pattern proposes an optimal combination of those scenarios such that the total cost is minimized.
