Spectral BSDF Measurement using Computational Imaging Spectroradiometry within a Lambertian 3⁄4-of-a-Sphere (preprint)
Year: 2013
Type: preprint
Abstract: The bidirectional optical scattering properties of surfaces are of importance to a wide range of disciplines. We classify existing measurement approaches and detail some emblematic instruments under a unified figurative formalism. We then present a new instrument, able to measure the spectral bidirectional scattering-distribution function over the visible-bidirectional domain (anisotropic spectral BRDF and BTDF). The general principle of the acquisition stage is to collect the scattering upon a hemispherical Lambertian screen. Interreflections are handled by subtracting the constant interreflections component. The detector is a novel omnidirectional spectral camera, which captures the spectral distribution of the scattering. Data processing, to recover a dense sampling of the SBSDF, is founded on a radiometric model of the image formation process within this device. Validation of the approach was performed through a round-robin procedure. Measured SBSDF are ultimately presented.
