RIS-Assisted Secure Transmission with Fragmented Signals for Precise Spatial Region

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Most existing secure communication systems suffer from excessively large eavesdropping regions and low energy efficiency. In this paper, we propose a physical-layer security (PLS) transmission architecture based on fragmented signal transmission, where multi-beam propagation is facilitated by a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). In this architecture, the baseband signal is initially divided into multiple fragments using spectrum-division filters. These fragmented signals are then independently transmitted via multiple beams. By jointly steering the direct beam and configuring the RIS phase-shift matrix, the main lobes of different signal beams intersect at the legitimate user, forming a precisely confined spatial region. Within this region, the fragmented signals naturally combine into a complete signal, which can be demodulated by a conventional receiver. In contrast, unauthorized receivers fail to recover the original message due to the loss of one or more fragments outside the intersection region. Simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) within the main-lobe intersection region is significantly lower than that in other regions, validating the proposed architecture.
