Cracow’s commercial discourse from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century as a source of research on Cracow regionalisms
Year: 2021
Type: book-chapter
Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze the selected texts representing a commercial discourse used in Cracow at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. These texts are primarily the price lists of goods, kept in the resources of the Jagiellonian Library, the Museum of Cracow and the National Museum in Cracow. In the analysis of the collected materials, the Authors limit themselves to describing the regionally diverse culinary lexis (from the thematic field of sweets and desserts). They describe the lexical units that have been confirmed in the research as Cracow regionalisms (e.g. andruty ‘andruts’, makaroniki ‘macaroons’, precle ‘pretzels’). In addition, the authors verify the hypothesis about the regional character of the lexeme pomadka ‘soft candy / chocolate’.
