Development of a Hybridized Cloud-Based Security Model for Nigeria University Security Network Using Round Robin and Power-Aware Load Balancing Algorithms

Type: article
Abstract: Cloud computing offers great potential for the enhancement of any nation’s national defence security networks by providing increased scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency. Nevertheless, current load balancing algorithms frequently do not optimise resource allocation and energy efficiency concurrently. This research addresses this deficiency by introducing a Hybridised Cloud-Based Load Balancing Algorithm (HCLBA), which integrates the Round Robin Load Balancing Algorithm (RRLBA) and the Power Aware Load Balancing Algorithm (PALBA) specifically for Nigeria's National Defence Security Network. The hybrid model was developed utilising Java and the NetBeans Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and subsequently tested across six data centres (DC1-DC6) employing cloud simulation tools. The performance evaluation focused on response time, processing time, and resource utilisation efficiency. The findings reveal that the hybrid algorithm attained an efficiency rate of 99.42%, significantly exceeding the performance of the standalone RRLBA (98.64%) and PALBA (70.77%). The system utilises Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) to facilitate real-time security monitoring and optimisation of resources. This study illustrates that hybridised load balancing methodologies provide enhanced performance for defence security networks, yielding improvements in reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness relative to conventional satellite-based and local datacentre systems. The recommended model is advocated for incorporation within national defence security frameworks.
