A rare case of fibrin band formation in an anticoagulated blood bag

Abstract: : A rare fibrin band formation was observed in a whole blood bag at the packed cell-plasma interface from a healthy first-time donor. Root Cause Analysis of this case was performed. Donor’s laboratory investigation, consumable-related factors, environmental factors, procedure related factors and detailed evaluation of the fibrin band was also done to reach a conclusion. The blood unit was discarded in view of the compromised quality of the components.
