Cyber-electromagnetic convergence: Network community detection-based synchronization architecture for wide area multilateration system

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: In the context of the deep integration of global cyberspace and electromagnetic space, globalized Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) systems lack a synchronization architecture adapted to large-scale passive sensor networks (PSNs). In this study, we propose the PSN-Louvain-based hierarchical synchronization architecture and a passive sensor clustering method based on network community detection, and we design a hierarchical synchronization protocol within this clustering structure. By utilizing actual signal common-view relationships between sensor nodes, this method resolves the problem of weak intra-cluster node association faced by traditional Euclidean distance-based clustering schemes. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms traditional Euclidean distance-based clustering algorithms in terms of clustering modularity, computational efficiency, and sensor network synchronization performance. In the real-world WAM system experiments covering 500 × 250 km 2 conducted in this study, the proposed method improves the system's positioning accuracy for two classic TDOA algorithms, demonstrating significant application value in passive localization.
