Abstract: Agriculture comprises the backbone of society, meeting the demand for products and ensuring food sustainability for the population and the well-being. The development of agriculture involves a series of processes and modifications to the environment, mainly to the soil, ranging from the removal of vegetative cover to the addition of nutrients and minerals. These practices generate environmental impacts that degrade soil quality, water quality and availability, and nutrients and minerals, affecting human health and the environment. In this study, a total of 30 environmental impacts generated by agriculture were identified and evaluated through the methodology known as modified Leopold matrix, focusing on the cultivation of products such as corn, avocado, tangerine, and tree tomato in the Patate canton. The impacts associated with the use of agrochemicals that enhance root growth, plant growth, and development during their production stages were found to be the most negatively hierarchical. These practices cause erosion, degradation, and loss of soil quality, as well as water contamination. Additionally, an environmental management plan was proposed, which includes measures and actions aimed at counteracting, preventing, and mitigating the effects of environmental impacts, focusing on the implementation of sustainable practices in the canton's agriculture.
