Compact Waveguide Low-Pass Filter With Smooth Profile Designed by Genetic Algorithm Optimization
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This letter presents a design methodology for implementing ultracompact low-pass filters in rectangular waveguide technology using smooth profiles. The waveguide profile is parameterized as a sum of sine functions with different amplitudes, frequencies, and phases, whose values are obtained through a parallel multiobjective genetic algorithm (GA). This enables ultrashort devices with stringent specifications and geometries suitable for metal additive manufacturing (AM). To validate the proposed approach, a Ku-band filter is designed featuring a steep transition between its passband (10.95–12.75 GHz) and stopband (13.75–14.5 GHz), with a total length of only 11 mm, a significant reduction compared to previously reported components. The device is fabricated using AM, and the measured results confirm its excellent performance.
