Abstract: Objective Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) receptors have been implicated in various neoplastic processes, including colorectal cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the expression patterns of serotonin and TSH receptors in normal colonic tissue, colorectal tumor tissue, and adjacent stromal areas. Methods Immunohistochemical analysis was performed on tissue samples from 100 patients, including both tumor and adjacent normal mucosa. Serotonin and TSH receptor expressions were assessed semi-quantitatively. Statistical analyses included Pearson Chi-square and continuity correction tests. One-way ANOVA was used to assess the differences between groups. Results Serotonin receptor positivity was observed in 41.2% of tumor tissues and 58.8% of stromal areas, while none of the normal tissues showed positivity (p < 0.001). TSH receptor expression was significantly higher in tumor tissues (68.4%) compared to normal tissues (31.6%) (p = 0.012). ANOVA analysis indicated that the significant differences were primarily between normal tissues and both serotonin-positive tumor and stromal groups. Conclusion The increased expression of serotonin and TSH receptors in colorectal tumor and stromal tissues suggests a potential role in tumor progression and tumor microenvironment interactions. These findings may contribute to novel diagnostic or therapeutic strategies in colorectal cancer.
