Development of a Calibration Device for Ultrasonic Sensors with Integrated Temperature and Humidity Measurement

Year: 2026
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: The current development of technology makes agricultural activities more effective and efficient. The application of sensor technology was widely used for monitoring and control in agricultural activities. One commonly used sensor was the ultrasonic sensor. However, its measurements still exhibit inaccuracies, necessitating calibration to enhance accuracy and precision. Factors affecting distance readings were air temperature and relative humidity (RH). This study aims to design, build, and test a calibration device for ultrasonic sensors equipped with temperature and RH measurement. The research consisted of several stages: problem identification, design formulation and refinement, design optimization, creation of a 3D model, device fabrication, electrical assembly, testing, data processing, and report preparation. Data analysis employed linear regression and multiple linear regression. The results indicate that the device can measure distance, temperature, and RH, as well as process, store data, and display data. A calibration equation was obtained for the ultrasonic sensor, with an R 2 value of 0.9993, improving the accuracy and precision of distance readings. From multiple linear regression analysis, a model equation was selected to predict values close to the actual measurements, using correction factors from temperature and humidity. This supports the initial assumption that ultrasonic distance measurements were influenced by temperature and RH. The device can also be used as a learning aid in courses on sensor calibration and validation.
