The floating drug delivery systems: A review

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The extension of the GRT now makes use of floating drug delivery systems (FDDS), also referred to as hydro dynamically balanced systems (HBS), swelling and expanding systems as a whole polymeric bio adhesive systems, modified-shape systems, higher-density systems, and other delayed emptying of the gastric devices. The development of gastro-retentive drug delivery techniques is required due to the shortcomings of the immediate release dosage form. Understanding stomach physiology and the related gastric emptying process is essential to the effectiveness of GRDDS. The fundus, body, and antrum are the three anatomical divisions of the human stomach. Systems for administering medications that, upon contact with the stomach, quickly float Fluids provide interesting methods for increasing the bioavailability of drugs because of absorption windows in the upper small intestine. The floating medication delivery methods are examined in this review (FDDS).
