Abstract: Agriculture is a strategic sector of the economy of the Republic of Moldova, making an important contribution to the formation of the gross domestic product and representing the main source of income for a large part of the rural population. The importance of this sector is amplified by its role in ensuring food security, maintaining socio-economic balance in rural areas and capitalizing on the country's natural resources. At the same time, Moldovan agriculture faces a series of structural and conjunctural challenges, such as the fragmentation of agricultural land, limited access to financing, the low level of technology, as well as increased vulnerability to climate change. In this regard, agricultural subsidies are emerging as a key instrument of public policies, with the role of stimulating investments in the modernization of agricultural holdings, in the adoption of advanced technologies and in increasing the added value of agricultural production. Through subsidies, the state can encourage the development of rural infrastructure, the diversification of economic activities and the integration of local producers into national and international value chains. Subsidies also contribute to increasing the competitiveness of local farmers on domestic and foreign markets, facilitating their adaptation to quality requirements and European standards. At the same time, an effective subsidy policy must ensure transparency, equity and strategic orientation, so that public resources are used efficiently and generate a sustainable economic and social impact. Therefore, state support through subsidy mechanisms is a fundamental pillar in the development of agriculture in the Republic of Moldova, contributing not only to the stability of the agricultural sector, but also to the general development of the national economy and to improving the living standards of the rural population.
