Big data analytics capability and supply chain resilience: the roles of information sharing and decision synchronization
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Big data analytics capability (BDAC) is widely regarded as a key enabler of supply chain resilience (SCR). Yet, supply chains remain vulnerable to disruption despite heavy investment in digital technologies. While BDAC contributes directly to resilience, its full potential is realized when analytics-generated shared visibility is translated into coordinated inter-firm action. This study investigates how BDAC strengthens SCR both directly and through such coordinated action.Drawing on Organizational Information Processing Theory (OIPT) and the Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT), we propose a sequential model in which BDAC enhances resilience through two collaborative routines: information sharing (IS), which creates shared visibility, and decision synchronization (DS), which converts that shared visibility into aligned operational action. The model is tested using survey data from 247 firms in Thailand’s disruption-prone and fragmented agri-food industry. Direct and indirect relationships among BDAC, IS, DS, and SCR are tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM).The results support a significant sequential partial mediation effect. BDAC strengthens SCR by improving shared visibility and enabling synchronized decision-making among partners. The findings indicate that BDAC enhances resilience both directly and indirectly through IS and DS, highlighting the importance of inter-firm coordination in realizing the resilience benefits of analytics capability.
