Abstract: The Tools and Guidance contains: SAFE AI Onboarding Readiness Checklist, SAFE AI Impact Assessment, SAFE AI Architecture and Tech Stack Decision Guide, SAFE AI Transparency Card, How to Co-design AI with Crisis-Affected Communities, Procurement of Humanitarian AI Guide, Technical Assurance of AI Models and Services. SAFE AI (Standards and Assurance Framework for Ethical AI in Humanitarian Action) is a sector-wide governance and assurance framework for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in humanitarian action. It sets out a staged implementation journey covering problem definition, design, development and deployment, with a risk tiering model applying proportionate requirements according to the potential impact of a deployment on affected populations. SAFE AI was developed by CDAC Network with The Alan Turing Institute and Humanitarian AI Advisory, in consultation with humanitarian practitioners, technical experts and crisis-affected communities.
