Year: 2026
Type: standard
Abstract: SAFE AI (Standards and Assurance Framework for Ethical AI in Humanitarian Action) is a sector-wide governance and assurance framework for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in humanitarian action. It sets out a staged implementation journey covering problem definition, design, development and deployment, with a risk tiering model applying proportionate requirements according to the potential impact of a deployment on affected populations. The framework was developed by CDAC Network with The Alan Turing Institute and Humanitarian AI Advisory, in consultation with humanitarian practitioners, technical experts and crisis-affected communities. This material has been funded by UK International Development from the UK government. However, the views expressed do not necessarily reflect the UK government’s official policies.
