Abstract: The article presents an analysis of medicinal plants under the conditions of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, where 360 species of medicinal plants grow and more than 37% of all plants are considered medicinal. General data on the resources of the medicinal flora are reviewed: 10–12 thousand species are known worldwide, more than 700 species occur in Uzbekistan, about 120 of which are used in scientific and folk medicine, while 40–47% of the medicines applied today are obtained from plant raw materials. The botanical, ecological and chemical characteristics of individual species widespread in the region are described — Salsola richteri Karel., Hyoscyamus niger L., Equisetum ramosissimum, Malacocarpus crithmifolius, Tamarix ramosissima Lebed., Erigeron canadensis L. and Alhagi pseudalhagi — including their content of alkaloids, tanning substances, flavonoids and essential oils and their use in folk medicine.
