Abstract: Through the analysis and interpretation of the image of different topics and periods of Brazilian life in the past, this article establishes theorical principies which are essential to the studies that make use of photography sources or search the photography's aesthetic understanding. Among these principies the author emphasizes the need to recover the inner reality of the images, because photography is useful, in general, to create realities , by both photographers and viewers, since they are a product of aesthetic and ideologic constructions.
