Abstract: This article examines derivation as a key process ofword-formation in English. Derivation creates new lexical items fromexisting words through affixation and other morphological changes. Thestudy analyzes the relationship between a base word and its derivatives,known as a word family. It also considers the structural and semantic changes that occur in derivational processes. The analysis shows thatderivation plays an important role in expanding vocabulary anddeveloping linguistic competence.
