Dynamic Monitoring Method for Grain Storage Engineering Construction Progress
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Grain storage project construction site monitoring is done by manual inspections and static reports that cannot continuously perceive the construction site for a timely and objective assessment of progress. To address this problem, this study proposed a method for dynamic construction progress monitoring using a combination of UAV light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and building information modeling (BIM). Using multiple timed UAV LiDAR scans, high-density 3D point clouds of the construction site were created. By preprocessing point clouds and extracting component geometric features, the actual construction status could be quantified. A 4D BIM progress model with a temporal attribute was created in which the point cloud and 3D model can be aligned in a common spatial coordinate system and assessed for completion status through component geometric matching, enabling dynamic monitoring of progress throughout construction.
