Union representation and collective bargaining in the Greek performing arts sector: Main challenges and obstacles in the aftermath of the economic crisis
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This article examines union power and collective bargaining in the Greek performing arts sector within a context of institutional deterioration and employment precarity. Drawing on the power resources approach and multi-method research, it analyses how unions mobilize and combine different power resources to address fragmented labour markets and weakened institutional frameworks. The findings show that despite temporary gains in associational and discursive power, unions face significant constraints due to limited structural and institutional power, fragmented employer representation and precarious working arrangements. The article argues that these conditions hinder the translation of union strategies into sustained regulatory outcomes, raising broader questions about union effectiveness in highly deregulated sectors.
