When 300 seconds are not the same: Platform- and cartridge-dependent variability of activated clotting time during left-sided ablation procedures
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Activated clotting time (ACT) is routinely used to guide unfractionated heparin administration during left-sided electrophysiology procedures, with current consensus recommendations targeting an ACT >300 seconds.1 However, commonly used ACT systems differ in reagents, detection methods, and calibration, while recommendations generally do not specify the measurement platform. Our previous international survey and systematic review demonstrated substantial heterogeneity in ACT platforms and anticoagulation strategies used in electrophysiology practice.
