Tsunami simulation results for a set of 14 scenarios with earthquake sources offshore Peru based on the model TsunAWI

Year: 2024
Type: dataset
Abstract: This data collection contains tsunami simulation results for 14 events offshore the Peruvian coast. The earthquake sources cover magnitudes between Mw 8.1 and Mw 9.0. The numerical model TsunAWI was used in a model domain covering the Peruvian coast from 19°S to 2°S to calculate these results. For each scenario, the following products were calculated: (1) Maximum wave amplitude in the whole model domain, (2) Estimates of arrival time (ETA) in the whole model domain, (3) Estimates of coastal flow depth in the complete covered coast, (4) Estimates of flow depth at higher resolution in the pilot area Lima/Callao, (5) Estimates of flow velocity in the pilot area, (6) Estimates of momentum flux in the pilot area. The data products were calculated in a triangular mesh with a resolution ranging from about 6km in the deep ocean to a mean value of 20m in the pilot area. The data are provided in regular grids. The simulations are based on historical events in the region and were carried out in the framework of the RIESGOS project (https://www.riesgos.de/en/).
