Growth and yield of chickpea as influenced by sowing windows, moisture conservation practices and drought mitigation strategies

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: A field experiment entitled “Growth and yield of chickpea as influenced by sowing windows, moisture conservation practices and drought mitigation strategies” was conducted at Agricultural College Farm, Bapatla during two consecutive years i.e. rabi 2024-25 and 2025-26. The experiment was carried out in split split plot design and replicated thrice. It includes four sowing windows as main plots, three moisture conservation practices as sub plots and three drought mitigation strategies as sub sub plots. Among the sowing windows, plant height, Dry matter production and seed yield were found to be higher in second fortnight of November sowing. Among moisture conservation practices, deep ploughing to a depth of 30 cm with MB plough followed by two shallow ploughings recorded higher plant height, Dry matter production and seed yield of chickpea during both the years of study. However, drought mitigation strategies did not influence the plant height, Dry matter production and seed yield of chickpea. The interaction effect of sowing windows, moisture conservation practices and drought mitigation strategies on growth and yield of chickpea was found to be non-significant.
