Abstract: In the urban area of China, economic reform caused structural social changes. So the community was asked to undertake functions that have been fulfilled by Danwei, a comprehensive work unit that is unique in China. Recently, it has been very important for the government and residents in the urban area to construct communities. This paper aims to research the residents' committee that is responsible for the community construction based on the recent fieldwork of the author in China, to evaluate the actual conditions of resident autonomy in China. ......
